Can Dot to Dot Save The World?
Anyone remember those dot to dot drawings from childhood? For the uninitiated it is a page full of dots that as you connect (correctly) slowly transforms into an image of a car, elephant, or whatever, kept me occupied for hours.
Well maybe world leaders should give it a try as a gentler form of international diplomacy. It will take so long for the information of the message to unfold that the recipient may well have grown used to the news by the time it has become totally clear.
Now perhaps if Hitler had sent his vision of a new world order via dot to dot drawings rather than regiments of panzer tanks he might have enjoyed more success, but I doubt it, or take the perennial problem of Israel and Palestine. If each side could send to the other via dot to dot their ideas for a peaceful coexistence with human dignity for the region it might move things forward? Still not convinced?
Ok let`s try the old cold war, look at the incredible effort, energy and money that each side devoted to building up enough nuclear warheads to blow each of us and our vegetable patches into orbit around the sun. Can you imagine it? Each side could send some nice and friendly drawings illustrating the strengths (and weaknesses heaven forbid) of their system of capitalism, or communism. We will never now know, but maybe, just maybe each side might have seen the good as well as the bad aspects of their relative systems. Can you imagine it the east could have learnt how to grow enough food to support their population and the west could have had a bash at training incredible ballet dancers.......
